Course Overview

Master of Arts (MA) in English at SWSC is a two-year (four semesters) program affiliated to Tribhuvan University. The course aims to blend the humanistic value of education with critical thinking in diverse fields of human knowledge. The program offers different courses like Western philosophy and thoughts from Plato to the postmodern period, history of English literature, Nepal Studies, trauma studies, and academic writing skills, critical discourse analysis. The course allows students a considerable degree of choice in choosing different areas of study such as language, literature, culture, and rhetoric. The syllabus aims at developing students’ creative, critical, and communicative skills that they need in their academic as well as professional life.

Pursuing and completing an MA in English is a pleasurable and rigorous journey of learning humanities.  With extensive reading and writing of the scholarly texts in English, the students develop the skills to interpret, analyze and synthesize ideas for academic and other purposes. After the completion of MA in English, the students can go further M. Phil. and Ph.D. study. Likewise, they can run a research program or lead any organization independently.
